SPCA Tampa Bay Launches “I Walk For” Campaign Ahead of Pet Walk on April 6

Community walk on April 6 brings together families and pets to help animals in need

Largo, FL (April 2, 2024) – SPCA Tampa Bay launches an “I Walk For” campaign ahead of the 33rd Annual Pet Walk on Saturday, April 6. Every walker has a story and reason why they support SPCA Tampa Bay’s Pet Walk. Maybe it’s an animal who changed their life for the better, an animal they love like family, or an animal whose memory they want to honor. SPCA Tampa Bay’s 33rd Annual Pet Walk will commemorate these stories and more as the community comes together to celebrate animals and their families on Saturday, April 6.

“I walk at Pet Walk because I love being around dogs and animal lovers. I grew up in a zero-animal household, so whenever an opportunity would present itself for me to be around animals, I would take it. I think it’s really important to show up and show support for animals. They love us without limitations, and the least we can do is participate at an event, such as at SPCA Tampa Bay’s Pet Walk, and show our support. We’re really excited to be able to attend Pet Walk again this year, with Lily by our side!” said Adela Schaffer, SPCA Tampa Bay Pet Walk participant.

Pet Walk has expanded this year and is set for two Pinellas County locations, North Straub Park in St. Petersburg and a new second location in Largo at Largo Central Park! SPCA Tampa Bay is asking for the community’s help by signing up to become a walker at PetWalk.org and forming a Pet Walk team to help make a difference in the lives of homeless pets and wildlife in SPCA Tampa Bay’s care. It is free to register for Pet Walk and all walkers who raise $50 or more will receive an exclusive walker t-shirt, swag bag, and pet bandanna!

In addition to the walk itself, both locations will feature a pet costume contest with prizes, awards and recognition for top fundraisers and teams, pet products from vendors, local food trucks, and two walk courses of varying lengths depending on the comfort level of you and your pet.

The community’s support of Pet Walk helps SPCA Tampa Bay continue to provide a variety of services to Pinellas County residents, including an animal adoption program, wildlife rehabilitation program, and multiple pet food banks. SPCA Tampa Bay cares for more than 8,000 animals admitted to the shelter each year and as a For-All shelter, SPCA Tampa Bay will not limit admission or refuse to take in a pet of any type. Adoption counselors focus heavily on matchmaking, which helps families experience a successful pet adoption and animals gain a home where they will thrive.

Pet Walk is presented by Hill’s Pet Nutrition and is one of SPCA Tampa Bay’s largest yearly fundraisers.
