St Petersburg College – College of Veterinary Nursing
To celebrate our Spring 2021 graduates, St. Petersburg College hosted two separate events: Virtual Commencement and in-person “Grad Walks.” On Saturday, May 8, 2021, St. Petersburg College awarded 2,168 degrees and certificates. With this graduating class, SPC has awarded 185,204 degrees since the college – Florida’s first community college – was founded in 1927.
The College of Veterinary Technology awarded 32 Associate in Science Degrees, 13 Bachelor’s of Science, and 8 Veterinary Practice Management Certificates.
Understanding the significance of an in-person graduation event, SPC planned a series of “Grad Walks” at several college locations May 10 through May 13. Because a traditional ceremony was not feasible, graduates, following COVID restrictions, were able to invite up to 4 guests to share their cap and gown moment. Graduates names were announced; they walked across the stage being congratulated by SPC leadership and faculty and had photos taken to commemorate their graduation.
Our AS graduates had a third celebration, their pinning ceremony, to recognize their achievement. The ceremony was held on May 23d at the Florida Botanical Gardens. Boxed breakfasts were provided by Banfield Pet Hospital®. Family, friends, and faculty celebrated their accomplishments and symbolically welcomed them into the honored profession of veterinary nurses, prepared to serve society as veterinary healthcare professionals.
