The Humane Society of Pinellas (HSP) is dedicated to reducing the rate of euthanasia in Pinellas County. Neonatal kittens are a particularly vulnerable population with more than 2,000 euthanized in Pinellas last year due to lack of resources. HSP is seeking the public’s partnership to drastically reduce this number through our Kitten Crusaders Program. Together, with the help of veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, shelter/rescue partners, and citizen foster homes, we can provide loving care to kittens in need. I have accepted a new position as Director of Animal Care for Broward County and Friday, May 3rd is my last day with Pinellas County Animal Services. I would like to say Thank You to all the members and your staff for their collaboration with Animal Services over the last decade. Jennifer Renner is a Program Manager with the department and she will the Interim Director effective Friday.
May is upon us and Hurricane Season is just around the corner. Please encourage your staff and your clients to include their pets as they prepare their storm survival plans. Animal Services staff will be staffing 3 Pet Friendly Shelters throughout the county if the need arises again this season.
Phase 1 of our shelter renovation project is almost complete. 2 of our dog housing building will be completed and ready for use in May, the buildings have been hardened for up to a Category 4 Hurricane, new dog kennels, new lighting, roofing, paint, and a fire sprinkler system. Phase 2 of the project to renovate the remaining dog housing building and the cat housing building will begin in June.
